Traditionally, The Quarter has been defined as Canal to Esplanade W to E and the River to Rampart S to N....but realistically speaking....I always stick to Canal on the W side, the River S....those are pretty safe bets....I don't go further North than Dauphine (and that was pre-Katrina days....) and there was rarely a reason to go further East (at least on foot) than Dumaine....and if my memory is at all working that is about the point on Bourbon at night that things change over in a BIG way if I am not mistaken or somewhere in that area, I may be a block or two off, some locals need to help me out here I don't THINK it is all the way down to Esplanade is it??

I keep hearing about staying away from the cemeteries in NO. Not that I was planning on visiting them anyway, but why is this? Is it such a tourist trap that criminals do all their 'hunting' there? Or just a junkie hangout?

^^^Oh, wow, thanks for the update Spooky! I just checked and it looks like the Marriot Canal is booked for that weekend, at least for the VooDoo rates....glad I booked early! And a lot of the hotels in the Quarter looked full too, from a quick travelocity search....

I just called the Marriot. they have a VooDoo group B rate that isn't available online ... only via phone reservations. They guy said it's the same as the other rate - $145 ( I think).

If you haven't decided where to stay or found a plane ticket to NOLA, I recommend checking www.kayak.com to research your travel plans. It's basically works like a Google search, crawling all the major sites to list the best prices. Even if you have plans already, you may check it out for future trips. I've used it several times and it's saved me lots of headaches in the planning department.

I have not stayed there for Voodoo (just for Jazzfest), but the LaQuinta on Camp Street is very nice and tends to be much cheaper than the Marriott. And it is RIGHT around the corner from the Marriott and Sheraton, so you get the convenience for shuttles/Quarter without the price.

we just booked 4 nights at the French Quarter Courtyard Hotel at 1101 N. Rampart....anyone know anything about the location? i went to trip advisor and read all the negatives about the place (poor service, no towels, bad breakfast set up) but honestly we're not interested in any of those things, and we're not 4 star hotel type people anyway...plus i bring my own sheets and towels to hotels out of habit, lol. we got the room for $70 per night (priceline.com) nand they told me parking was only $12/day. but i'm curious about the location. on the map it looks like 3 blocks from the quarter, but i've been to NOLA several times and i know how that goes, can any locals help me out? thx

I can get great deals on hotels in NOLA. I can land you a four star hotel downtown for $99 per night including taxes. Email scottwh1te@hotmail.com and I can hook you up.
