photo pass serves as a press pass too as far as i know. i just got my confirmation yesterday too. see you in the pit!! Awesome dude! ;D Can't wait! Yeah, photo pass will get you into all the media areas, but a press pass won't get you into the pit I only got a press pass for 'Roo.......  And being short that meant no good photos...... |

man i got a photo pass for lollapalooza and the shit was terrible. you were probably better off without it at Roo, but i couldnt say cause ive never been. never been to voodoo either for that matter. is it pretty wild in general? what about the media areas? do they give out free stuff?

Hmmm, that's sad about Lolly....but it's a "major event" with "major PR".....so I might kind of expect that. 'Roo is major too, but the vibe is totally diff, and Big Hassle is very cool to work with, they really run a good festie and make the media feel like part of the festie instead of "pests"....even the local yocals...(like me I should add...Hee!)
This is my first VooDoo too so I don't know what the vibe will be or how well run the media circus will be. I'm sure there will be giveaways/throwaways - LOL! There's always some little trinkets laying around the media tents....how good they are varies from place to place. I'm more interested to see what kind of access we get and if there will be any press cons and who will show up around the media areas. I have seen NOTHING from the PR peeps on any kind of schedules or events of any kind.....

Yeah I know I was thinking the same thing. I hope we don't have to have escorts like the video people! they made photo people at rock the bells have escorts, but that was a 1 day festival, much smaller, so this will probably be straight. But anyways, what type of press will you be representing in there? It seems like it should be pretty crazy down there. They said it was something like 100,000 people last year, the biggest turnout they ever had.

Yeah, they had a huge turnout last year - it was the first year after Katrina.....don't know what to expect this year....haven't heard anything about how many tix have been sold. The photogs had to be herded at 'Roo - had to meet up at the press tent before every set - I would suspect a similar deal for VooDoo - but who knows, just depends on how/if it's organized - LOL! I "on assignment" for the local pop culture/music/art mag, you know, the one every city has that they give away EVERYWHERE around town. I kind of have an informal agreement with the publisher/editor that I can use her name in vain to get press passes for things like this if I give her stories/pix to anything I go to. It works out pretty well. ;D I just hope no one at VooDoo pulls a Tool.....they refuesed to allow ANY PHOTOS!!!! NONE! Even non-flash professional photos from the pit for even the FIRST song.....talk about Divas!  |

oh they did the same thing with red hot chili peppers last year at lollapalooza. i'm not really too concerned if i miss out on one or two bands. i'm just trying to see the majority of the people i came to see and have a good time. it doesn't seem like there are that many press people going down there this year.

As long as they let us in the pit for Rage I'll be a happy happy girl! I have to get up close and personal shots of Tom....that's the whole point of the trip! I gotta get shots of Arm the Homeless and the Great Guitar God Morello in his element. Got some decent shots at 'Roo of his Nightwatchman gig but it just wasn't the same..... and some cool pix of Zach woudn't be bad either....
My guess is that the press is split between Vegoose and VooDoo this year since they are the same weekend. And Vegoose seems to be the bigger draw for the major press outlets esp. Well, duh! It is Vegas Baby! I mean, I LOVE NOLA and would still choose it over Vegas, but a lot of people wouldn't I'm sure. And the lineups are on par with one another, just depends on your tastes. Vegoose prob has a few more well known acts esp on the festie circuit.....
