OK, what is the one (or two for you indecisive types like myself!) thing that you MUST DO while in New Orleans....
For those of us that are regulars...it's probably a ritual - for me it's a trip to Cafe Du Monde and the French Market (I consider that ONE thing since they are connected!) and Oysters at Felix's...oh and a trip to the Funky Pirate one night (okay so maybe THREE things if you are REALLY indecisive like my ownself! or just REALLY love NOLA!)
If you have never been...one thing that you have always WANTED to do in New Orleans....

For me it is Cafe Du Monde and Jackson Square for a peek into the Cathedral

Cafe Du' Monde ( of course ) plus the French Market. While I'm down at that end of the quarter I usually stop in at Margaritaville to see if they've got anything new.
Mulates for dinner! I know it's actually cajun and the original restaurant in Breaux Bridge was better, but it's still one of my favorites.
Bourbon street I can usually do without. Growing up there made me a bit jaded towards it. I always liked the clubs on Royal street better anyway.

^^^I love the bar upstairs at Margaritaville with the tire swings! Just can't have too many margaritas and sit there....or you'll not be able to get OUT of the swings.....

Bourbon street I can usually do without. Growing up there made me a bit jaded towards it. I always liked the clubs on Royal street better anyway. The Funky Pirate is the only bar I go to on Bourbon and it just caught me the very first trip to NO, don't know why....and I have gone back every time. NOLA has lots of little hole-in-the-wall places like that, everyone finds their own. I love Royal, but tend to stay away from it for $$ reasons.....the antiques are just SOOOO gorgeous and SOOOO tempting (and SOOO $$$$)!!! But those places are all closed at night, right???

Yeah - I think the antique stores are closed at night - I have so much fun walking down that street and looking tho - there are some gorgeous pieces and at least it lets me have an idea of what some of the stuff I have is worth and what to keep my eye open for at flea markets, garage sales and auctions

Sounds like a group trip to Cafe Du Monde might have to happen since we all seem to have that on our must list!

Sounds like a group trip to Cafe Du Monde might have to happen since we all seem to have that on our must list! I was talking to some old friends the other day and we were reminiscing about trips to Cafe Du Monde in high school. I mentioned that it seemed coincidental that we always wore black when we went there and ended up with white powdered sugar all over us. Then my friend Tim pointed out that it was no coincidence, it's just that we were ALWAYS wearing black in the '80s. We were once asked to leave CDM for having a powdered sugar fight at 3 AM after Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Sounds like a group trip to Cafe Du Monde might have to happen since we all seem to have that on our must list! Count us in! Just not too early (or late?). As for the rest, since I've never been I'm open to suggestions. I will suspend my non-meat eating rule for the weekend (only as far as shellfish, tho). Oysters. Yum. Right time of year for that, too. Better actually do some work now. I've been pretty worthless since Bonnaroo, but not my fault. I'm puny. *cough cough*
